Fogo, the playful schnauzer

There is a special place in my heart for mini schnauzers. Our first dog, Mash, was a charismatic and scrappy little schnauzer-y, schnoodley rescue pup, and I loved her with my whole heart. So I was pumped to have the opportunity to photograph Fogo, a mini schnauzer living in St John’s, Newfoundland, with her owners, Jack and Susan.

Fogo the dog is named after Fogo Island, where Jack has done geology residencies. It’s also the place that inspired me to get serious about photography, because of its wild beauty and abundance of doted-upon dogs to practice on. A two-year-old pup, Fogo’s best friend is a cat. Like me, Fogo is a July baby and a Cancerian—high five, fellow crab!

This little dog was very motivated by her toys, so they played a big part in our photo session. And her bond with Jack and Susan was strong, so we captured some shots with them too. We got lots of jumping shots too, as she had serious springs in her heels!

Here are a few images from our session: action shots captured while Fogo was off leash and still shots, where she was leashed for safety in a publics place where there were plenty of exciting distractions. This help such a young pup stay focused and maintain a strong pose. Later, thanks to the magic of Photoshop, I was able to remove the leashes from the final edited shots, and you’d be none the wiser.

Enjoy the photos and feel free to get in touch if you’re interested in booking a session. I’m currently taking bookings for the Greater Toronto Area; Ottawa; Kingston; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St Andrews, New Brunswick.
